Kate Pankhurst, Fantastically Great Women Who Worked Wonders, March 2019, Bloomsbury Publishing, 32 pp., RRP $14.99 (pbk), ISBN 9781408899274
The cover and title of this book instantly captured my attention, and continued to as I turned page after page. The introduction page which calls the reader to ‘follow your fantastically great dreams with…’ was an invitation I couldn’t refuse.
A book which powerfully and creatively captures the journeys, successes and challenges of the profiled great women, while also encouraging the reader to follow the lead of ‘these big dreamers and go-getters’ to achieve their goals no matter how big or small.
The facts and experiences of these women are each represented in a double page spread which is themed to their big dream and success. Whether that be a page of bugs and insects for Maria Sibylla Merian who transformed our understanding of the natural world, or a volcanically adventurous page of bubbling red lava for Katia Krafft; the daring volcanologist.
What I love about this book is that it captures the journeys of each incredible woman so well with engaging facts and illustrations, while also conveying to the reader that they too have the power to follow their dreams and celebrate their talents.
An informative celebration of ‘game changers’ and ‘go-getters’ which will no doubt inspire the next generation of inspirational women.
