Even if you aren’t a fan of fluff, you’re sure to be a fan of Floof! This playful story about a flooffy, fluffy kitty is a delight for young children. Floof is a carefree kitten, enjoying all that a brand new day has to offer. From simple activities, sharing time with friends, and redirecting attention away from negative distractions to positive pastimes, Floof exudes optimism and certitude.
Heidi McKinnon has crafted a simple narrative with clean and crisp, simple yet engaging illustrations that perfectly target the 0-4 age group. Short sentences coupled with expressive pictures provide animated action ideal for oral storytelling to large groups. The story is brimming with opportunities to engage young listeners and encourage participation and anticipation of Floof’s daily adventure.
In certain places, the linear narrative feels a little disjointed with the sharp jumps from one activity to another and might have benefitted from softer and clearer wordsmithing segues. The captivating Floof however, draws readers’ eyes with ease and keeps them moving forward across the narrative bumps, so that as we draw to the end of Floof’s day, the energy is high leaving us looking forward to a new ‘floofy’ day.
