Laura Ellen Anderson, I Don’t Want Curly Hair!, Bloomsbury, 1 March 2017, 32pp., $24.99 (hbk), ISBN 9781408868409
An unnamed little girl tries everything to straighten her very curly red hair, from long hard brushing to hanging upside down in her favourite tree. The only thing that works is washing her hair but it soon dries and the frizzy knots return. However she is much comforted when she meets a straight-haired girl who longs for curly hair. They have fun experimenting with different styles and swapping ideas so all ends happily. The story is related in rhyming couplets that suit its lively pace, as do the very amusing illustrations. Suitable for ages 2-5.
